Heather School is a neighborhood public school serving students in TK through grade three. Nestled in the hills of San Carlos, California, our eleven-acre campus overlooks the beautiful San Francisco Bay.
Heather School has had a well-earned reputation for providing rich learning experiences for children in a safe and caring environment. In partnership with The San Carlost School District, and San Carlos Educational Foundation, Heather School provides an innovative and engaging learning experience that fosters the development of the Whole Child to ensure all students are well prepared for success in the 21st Century as evidenced by:

Innovative and Engaging Learning
On June 20, 2013, the San Carlos School Board passed a groundbreaking Strategic Plan that examines how to re-think public education for the 21st Century. By 2016, all teachers will be trained in the project-based learning (PBL) model of instruction. Teachers are teaching and assessing the 5Cs (Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking and problem solving, Creativity and Citizenship, as well as the Habit of Mind, “Ownership”. We know that young children learn at varying rates Learning is personalized through workshop models for reading and writing, providing voice and choice through project-based learning, making and designing and helping children find their own learning passions. On September 22, 2016, the San Carlos School Board approved the new Homework/Learning Beyond School Hours, which supports and guides teachers to personalize homework. Time reading books and being read to by older readers or peers is the main expectation for out of classroom learning. We recognize and encourage family time, play time, and down time as being important for all children, particularly for our young school-age children. Many classrooms, especially in grades 3 and 4 provide At Home Learning menus and connect learning at home activities back to the classroom through At Home Learning Showcases.
