PTA Volunteer Opportunities

There are so many opportunities to make a difference at Heather!  Take a look at the open positions below and reach out to us or the contacts listed below if you would like to help out.

Fundraising Chair

The PTA's Fundraising Chair champions free-to-you fundraisers (like shopping with Amazon's Heather link - sign up here!) and assists in PTA fundraising efforts such as our partnership with SCEF to streamline fundraising for Heather.

Let us know if you'd like to help with the PTA's fundraising efforts!

Art In Action Docents

Trained parent volunteers, called Art Docents, use classic works by great artists to enhance students’ knowledge and appreciation of the artist, as well as art history and media types and techniques. Every class needs at least one Docent and one or more Assistants.

Let your teacher know if you are interested in becoming an AIA Docent or Assistant!

Room Representatives

Two parent room representatives assist every Heather classroom teacher.  In addition, room reps serve as a communication link between the PTA, teachers and families.  This is a great way to get involved with classroom activities.

Contact Heather's Room Rep Coordinator to be a room rep or to assist your room rep.

Library Enrichment

Parent volunteers assist Mrs. Herndon in the library by helping students select and check out books. Our Library Enrichment Coordinator works with Mrs. Herndon and the teachers to find volunteers for each of the classrooms and to coordinate volunteer projects needed in the library.

Would you like to help in the library? Email Mrs. Herndon at [email protected] to volunteer.

Healthy Cities Tutoring Program

San Carlos Healthy Cities program trains volunteers from the community to tutor and mentor students. Volunteers work approximately one hour per week and scheduling is flexible. Heather needs tutors and a volunteer coordinator to work with Healthy Cities and Heather to assist with matching students with tutors.

Visit the Healthy Cities website to see how you can help!

Yearbook Team

The yearbook committee creates and publishes Heather’s yearbook. Volunteers collect photographs, write, design the layout and work with our Chief Editor and printer to create the yearbook. They also publicize the sale of the book, process orders, and distribute the yearbook. This is a fantastic way to share your photos of your kids and their friends!

Contact the yearbook's Chief Editor to help bring your child's yearbook to life!

Spirit Wear Coordinator

Can you help coordinate the printing and selling of Heather's spirit wear? We make it easy to take orders from families and then work with our vendor to fulfill them.

Contact Heather's PTA President if you'd like to help!

Kindergarten Lunch & Recess Helpers

Help our new kindergartners get in the swing of things during lunch and recess.  Help unwrap straws and open containers, keep order, remind kids to take out their trash, escort the kids safely to the playground and help keep them safe while they’re on the playground.

Volunteers are needed Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11:45am to 12:30pm. Please sign up in the office.

School Beautification

Every year our PTA organizes a School Beautification Day to maintain and improve the school’s grounds. Get your hands dirty! Help us fix things, get organized, weed, plant and paint. Prior experience is not necessary. Days are scheduled on the weekends, usually in conjunction with the San Carlos Day of Service, which will be September 25, 2022 this year.
