Heather Kids Need You!

Spring has sprung, the sun is out and our PlayPod is open after a few months of on again, off again wet weather and the PlayPod doors being closed.

The PlayPod is opened 12:00 - 1:00 during lunch recess, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, only when we have a parent volunteer to supervise. We have had a couple of wonderful regular volunteers who could use some partnering, either working together on the same day, or sharing the day and giving each other a break.

A must see: Heather’s 1-minute PlayPod video

PlayPod supervision is easy and fun. Here’s what is needed:

  1. Arrive by 12:00, sign into the front office

  2. Pick up the PlayPod key

  3. Open the PlayPod door, and start bringing the containers and boxes out for kids to choose from

  4. Put the Open sign out so the kids on the lower yard can see it (It’s broken, so I just propped the sign against the frame last Friday)

  5. Then stand or sit back (on the stoop of the PlayPod in the shade) and watch and smile.

  6. The kids are great! They need very little interaction, maybe an occasional support of using inclusive words, sharing etc.

  7. 5 minutes before the bell rings for recess being over, ring the brass bell and have the kids help clean up. The K-2 kids just put things back in the bins so the 3rd and 4th graders don’t inherit their mess. The 3rd and 4th graders help you put everything away.

  8. Only adults are allowed inside the PlayPod. Kids put everything in the bins and bring to the door, the adult then starts packing the playpod, putting in all of the cardboard boxes last.

  9. Lock and return the key.

NewSensory bin with kinetic sand

  • Just place the red bin outside the PlayPod, near the door.

  • Help orchestrate about 6 kids at a time

  • Remind kids to keep the sand inside the bin!

Please consider signing up for a regular day, or share a day of the week with another. The PlayPod remains closed if we don’t have help. Sign up Calendar
